There are five main diseases that you will need to worry about with squirrels:
These disease will all come with their own unique set of symptoms, although, usually, in humans cause generic and vague symptoms that are often linked to a string of other disease and conditions before an animal-borne one is considered. When you think about it, you probably won’t think to mention the squirrel that has been hanging around in your back yard, when you go to the doctor for feeling under the weather. In almost all cases, it will be urine or feces that actually spreads the disease, not the animal itself. If you haven’t even seen a squirrel hanging around, you won’t think to blame your illness on the animal at all.
When you spot a wild animal in your yard, there is a good chance that you won’t be able to tell, just by looking at it, whether or not it is sick. There is no way for a squirrel to tell you that it has a headache and, therefore, could be suffering with a case of Tularemia. You won’t know the animal has a stomach upset, unless you are unlucky enough to see it for yourself. The point that we’re making is that you won’t know, just by looking at an animal, whether or not it is sick.
Could you tell, just by looking at someone, if a person had a slight headache, fever, or a bit of an upset stomach?
More often than not, no, you couldn’t. The same can be said for wild animals also.
If you aren’t sure about an animal – whether or not it might be rabid or have a condition or disease that you might then get, you should steer clear. It isn’t just the animal that you need to be careful of, with the feces, urine, and even bedding substances contaminated and ready to spread disease far and wide.
You will not be able to tell just by looking at a squirrel whether or not it has a sickness, and that means you should stay back.
