One of the worst experiences for a homeowner is to find that a wild animal has found its way into the living quarters of a property and has caused damage, and while there are many species that can do this, pigeons are certainly one such nuisance. The kind of damage that they can cause is significant, and there is also the health risks that are associated with these birds and particularly the feces they will often leave all over the house. If you are looking to prevent the birds from coming in, or have had a pigeon get in and want to seal the house, here are a few areas to consider when you are carrying out such work.

The Roof

The roof is an area of a property that is often neglected by homeowners, as it will be separated from the main area of the house by a roof cavity or attic, and it is also not a part of the house that is in the line of sight when people go in and out of the house. Loose tiles can reveal holes that allow the pigeons in, while damage to the area where the chimney links with the roof is also an area that can be particularly vulnerable to holes.

Damaged Soffits

While modern soffits around the house are usually plastic, there are many homes that use the traditional wooden soffits, and as they are exposed to the elements they can often become weakened by the weather, or can rot if there is a leaky gutter above them. This can sometimes lead to holes that are located around the roof line, and this can be another way that the pigeons will be able to use to get into the house.

Vents

There are all manner of different types of vents that can be used around the home, and while those made from brick are usually resilient to these birds, damaged plastic or wooden vents can be an easy way the birds can use to get in.

Windows And Doors

Although it isn't particularly common, there are plenty of cases where a pigeon has perched on a window sill and found its way into a house, or found a few crumbs around an open door and then hopped in. When they are inside the living quarters of a home, the damage and the danger the birds can cause is significantly increased, so if you are repeatedly experiencing the problem, look for ways to keep the birds away from these parts of your home.
