Once upon a time if a nocturnal animal was seen during daylight hours it was a surefire sign that it was sick, and was to be avoided. This school of thought has changed recently though, with some previously nocturnal animals hunting during the day due to the fact that there is more abundance of food (especially if humans are involved in the equation).

Foxes

One example of this is the fox. They have changed to be more daytime animals as there is more food.

Does this mean they aren't ill then?

Unfortunately not. There is still a chance that it is still sick, and that it should be given plenty of space. Especially if the disease is bubbling beneath the surface and isn't visible on the animal.

What to do if you see a fox during the day?

The best policy in regards to foxes full stop is to give them plenty of space. These creatures don't usually need you to give them space as they will often make sure that there is plenty of space between you and them (they are usually shy creatures, however an increasing number of city foxes have started to become a bit more confident around humans) however if it doesn't give you space it is either a city fox or it may have rabies (which causes an animal to be quite docile).
