Many of Virginia's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Virginia's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocaton services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Wythe county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. Wytheville Wildlife Removal Tip:

How to get coyotes out from under a shed or porch

Coyotes are commonly found in urban and suburban areas, and by nature are reclusive animals who do not favor interaction with humans. But as people continue to increase their territory day by day, these animals are forced to live near humans.

They do not harm us, and only a few known cases of attacks have been recorded, but sometimes conflicts do happen.

Common complains we get from people regarding the animal are:
  • Coyotes killing their pets and animals.

  • A concern for the safety of their children, if they see a coyote roaming in their backyard.

  • Coyotes are living under their sheds and porch.
Waking up to find a coyote living under your shed can be an absolute nightmare. These creatures breed there, dig up large holes under your property, make unbearable noises, fuss, and smell, and often die there, which can be difficult and expensive to remove. They are also infected with flees and carry different harmful bacteria, which is a severe threat to the health of the people living in your house.

If a wild coyote is hiding under your shed, here are a few tips to help you remove it safely.

Wait for them to leave

This is one of the most common methods people use if they see a family of coyotes living under their shed. Female coyotes often crawl under houses, to breed her babies, and once the pups are big enough to hunt on their own, she leaves along with her children. If you are at terms with allowing a wild animal to live with you and your family, you will have to be patient as the process can take a few days, sometimes even months.

After the mother has left, make sure to cover the opening from where she might have crawled in from, to prevent her from getting in again in the future.

Setting up traps

You can also place traps in hopes of trying to catch the intruder but remember that trapping a coyote is not easy as they are very cautious animals. Leg and paw hold traps are the most effective, but they are considered inhumane, and we do not recommend that you use them.

Many humane coyote traps are available in the market, before placing it make sure that it works correctly so that the animal cannot escape once inside. Also, wash the cage beforehand and always wear latex gloves to cover up your scent. Put fresh food and leave it overnight where the animals are frequent seen. If the trap worked, you should have a trapped coyote inside by morning.

Releasing the animal in the wild is also an issue which you will have to face, there are specific laws which vary from state to state regarding catching and then setting free animals in the wild. You will have to educate yourself before you even try placing traps. Otherwise, you could get in trouble with the authorities.

Take away food sources

Prevention is always better than cure. Try to keep your property clean, cut your grass short and trim large bushes to avoid attracting wild animals into your yard in the first place.

If a coyote has already entered your house and is living under your shed, immediately stop feeding your pets outside and place all of their food inside. This will reduce the intruder's food sources and force them to leave. Controlling your rodent population and adequately closing garbage bins will also help.

Calling in a professional

If all else fails, the best method to help you get rid of wild coyotes from your property is calling in a professional for help.

These wild animals can be dangerous if they feel threatened, as the mothers will do anything in their power to protect the young in the den, or under your shed. You will not have to worry about any of these things, as the professions will take care of all of the above safely.
