Many of Virginia's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Virginia's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Loudoun county animal services for assistance. Loudoun County Wildlife Removal Tip: How to get squirrels out of the attic: There are two different methods to getting rid of squirrels out of the attic. The first method is to call in a professional. The second method is to do it yourself. Ignoring the problem isn't an option. Do you have any idea how much destruction and damage a squirrel can cause? All in all, the best way to deal with a pesky squirrel problem is to make sure it doesn't get in the house in the first place but this isn't easy and sometimes, standards will slip. If you're determined to do it yourself, if you're sure you can remove the squirrel by yourself, you should know that trapping and removing from the property, followed by maintenance and repairs of both the interior and exterior of your home, is the only way to deal with it to ensure the problem doesn't come back. You could also use one way exclusion funnels and doors / traps so the squirrel can get out but can't get back in again but again, you'll still need to seal those holes and cracks again. There is also one final thing you'll need to hear about too - the prospect of teeny-tiny squirrels. If you've spotted a mother, there's a good chance there's babies somewhere too. You can't remove the babies without the mother. You can't remove the mother without the babies. Maybe you can use them to attract each other, let the mother lead you to the youngsters, capture the youngsters, use them to capture the mother and then you have problem safely confined. Now you need to work out what to do next...

Loudoun County Animal News Clip: What to do if you find a litter of kittens

In most cases, when you find a litter of kittens, your first instinct will be to call an animal shelter. However, what if you find that all the shelters are full? Here, you will need to consider other options. It is essential to note that in most cases, when you find kittens, their parents will have been living there at some point. Therefore, by the time you find them, they will have been abandoned recently. You should, therefore, not abandon them too. When you find the kittens, the first thing that you must do is evaluate the situation. In case, the kittens are in a good place, or if they seem safe, you should first leave them where they are, until you come up with a strategy. You should first try to observe the kittens without disturbing them. If you disturb them, their mother could end up hiding them. In case the kittens do not have a mother, you should watch them more closely. As long as the kittens are warm, they are ok on their own for a few hours as you work out a plan.

The mode of help you offer to the kittens will depend on their age. It is, therefore, extremely important that you determine the age of the kittens before you go ahead to offer them any kind of help. The ideal time for finding kittens is when they are between the ages of four and eight weeks. This is because; at this age, they are ready to leave their mother. However, if you find kittens that are younger, you should either keep them with their mother or find someone who can provide round the clock care. If you find the kittens when they are over eight weeks old, it will be hard to turn them into pets. They will most likely remain wild regardless of how hard you try to tame them. However, in certain cases, such cats have been known to socialize with only one person, who will be their care giver and referred to as mom cat. Therefore, if you find such kittens, it is best to leave them where they are. All you should try to do is provide them with food and water. You could also go ahead and provide them with shelter and try to get them sterilized.

If the kittens are below eight weeks, you could also decide to manage them where they are, or leave them outside. This is a much better alternative to taking them to an animal shelter. However, kittens are ideally supposed to be relocated to a foster home where they can receive the love and attention they deserve. For people that love kittens, it can be a good experience to have them for a few weeks. As the kittens are learning house manners for a few weeks, you will in the meantime try to get them permanent homes. Overall, how you deal with litter kittens will depend on the stage at which you find them. The older they are, the harder they are to domesticate.
