Many of New York's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving New York's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocaton services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Chautauqua county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Dunkirk&Fredonia animal control for wildlife issues.

Dunkirk&Fredonia Wildlife Removal Tip: What is a squirrel's mating habits, when do they give birth, and how does it raise its young?

Squirrels Love Spring. The spring season has finally arrived, and this is period is exciting for our squirrel friends. Why is spring the most joyful season to squirrels? Well, it is the period when mother squirrels will be hearing the pitter-patter of their young.

Mating season of the most of the squirrels takes place two times per year. The first mating season in any given year of squirrels runs from December to February. The second mating season of squirrels runs from June to August.

Squirrel's Mating Habits

If you though that squirrels are romantic and that their mating habits are romantic as well, you were wrong. The mating habits of these small rodents are everything but romantic. Their mating habits are far away from romance.

These furry animals don't mate for life with one partner. When an adult female squirrel becomes receptive, that only lasts for one day. And when a female squirrel sends a signal that she is receptive, which she sends via smell, the male squirrels can sense that smell as far away as one mile. The male squirrels will gather around the female squirrel and they will fight for the chance to mate with her. However, a female squirrel won't mate with only one partner. She will copulate with all the male squirrels that prove themselves to be dominant over other male squirrels. Other male squirrels may get the chance to mate with a female squirrel once she finishes mating with dominant male squirrels.

Male Squirrels Don't Care about Young Squirrels

Once the male squirrels finish mating with a female squirrel, they will simply get away from her and never come back. This is nothing strange since this happens in other rodent species. A female squirrel is left alone to raise her litter and to teach them skills how to survive in the wild. Male squirrels don't care about that at all.

Gestation Period

The gestation period for most squirrels is circa 45 days. Other tree squirrels have a slightly shorter gestation period. The mom squirrel gives birth to its litter in a tree cavity of a hollow tree or in a dray.

The squirrel litter will usually have two to four young squirrels. Squirrel babies are one inch long and they weigh an ounce.

How Does a Mom Squirrel Raise Young?

The squirrel young are being cared for by their mom in the nest until they become independent. Weaning takes place from the seventh week to the tenth week of age. When the squirrel young leave the nest, they will hang out with their mom so she could teach them the skills they will need in their independent life.
