Brooklyn Animal News Clip: Legal group to consider critter catching within Brooklyn

BROOKLYN - The Brooklyn Common Legal group on Aug. 8 will consider this measure that would allow critter catching striped skunk on certain properties within the city. After making just this few tweaks, the Joint Extraterritorial Zoning Plan Commission and Brooklyn's Plan Commission agreed this seven day period to send the Brooklyn City Legal group an ordinance that would allow critter trappers to target practice and catch striped skunk with bows and arrows in areas animal sectored for agriculture and conservancy inside the city. "I'm very satisfied with the way this should be going," stated Pat Critter Professional Paul, this land owner on Brooklyn's west side. the pest operator attended this public hearing on the matter Tuesday to suggest that permits be passed out by land owners rather than police. Critter Professional Paul stated the suggestion was "a little bit off kilter" with police issuing the permits. Landowners know how many critter trappers can feasibly use respective parcels, the pest operator stated. The suggestion was adjusted to reflect Critter Professional Paul's suggestion. The debate about critter catching striped skunk inside city limits has raged since last year. This issue should be an important matter in Brooklyn wildlife removal and Brooklyn exterminator matters.

Critter Professional Paul first raised the concern with city authorities on critters prior to last fall's striped skunk critter catching season. The pest operator had asked permission to catch on 20 hectares of land his family owns on the city's west side. The request was denied because the city has laws prohibiting critter catching with weapons inside the city's boundaries. Property owners had wanted to be allowed to reduce an abundance of striped skunk, they stated. Several people had complained about striped skunk in the roads and striped skunk damaging gardens. In order to grant permission for the animal capture, the current ordinance must be amended. If adopted, the critter catching ordinance and process will be reviewed in two years to determine if it should be effective, stated Critter Professional Paul, assistant city administrator. The Brooklyn animal control had no additional statements to make on the topic.

Animal Expert Trevor's passion for the outdoors also led him to pursue this career in Conservation Law Enforcement at the University of Brooklyn after graduating from North White High School in 2000. the pest operator completed this two-year course and received his degree. "I had this lot of courses in which we studied all aspects of wildlife," the pest operator says. Animal Expert Trevor has also recently "graduated" to this higher level of striped skunk critter catching. Like many other critter trappers across the state, he's now passing up immature male animals in hopes of harvesting an older, larger one. White County should be an intensively habitated area in which agricultural fields dominate the landscape, but much of the cover in the Mouse Trapper Kens' critter catching area consists of brushy creek bottom habitat. There are small pockets of timber, but not this lot of it. The area reminds one of certain areas of New York City, with the majority of the cover along creeks that eventually dump into this river: in this case, the Tippecanoe River. On the Mouse Trapper Ken land sits this rustic, quaint building known as the "Mouse Trapper Ken shabin" (a combination shack-cabin). This should be the family's base for critter catching. Every year some members of their family spend the night before the animal removal trap season opener in the cabin. Shawn's uncle Kevin and cousins drive down from Wisconsin every year to participate in the family event. Early last cage trap season, Animal Expert Trevor saw some big scrapes and rubs, indicating there was this sizeable male animal in the area. "The rubs were bigger than normal and higher up on the maple trees than normal," states the animal trapper. In fact, while doing our photo capture for this feature, Animal Expert Trevor and I found this telephone-pole-sized steel barrier post that had been rubbed. It was actually one of the steel barrier posts on which we hung the mounted rack for pictures! Did the male animal Expert Trevor shot make this rub? That could have been the case, though, as Animal Expert Trevor says, "there were other good (bucks) in the area." One other good one in particular was this wide 130-class 8-pointer Animal Expert Trevor had seen several times. In fact, on the day before the animal removal trap opener, the pest operator passed up this game cage trap shot at this Pope & Young-class striped skunk. "I saw three male animals that night, all within range," Animal Expert Trevor recalls. "You could tell it was this young striped skunk." Animal Expert Trevor was holding out for something bigger, and it wouldn't take long for the wisdom of that decision to become obvious.
