Many of Michigan's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Michigan's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Oakland county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Waterford animal control for wildlife issues.

Waterford Wildlife Removal Tip: Biology of Black Rat

Black rats originated from Asia then spread throughout the world during the Roman era. They are known by a variety of names such as black rats, ship rats, home rats and roof rats. Scientifically, black rats are known as Rattus. They are tiny in size measuring about seven inches long when mature, not including the tail. The tail itself grows to about 7 inches. The color of their fur is dark brown or grey, not black as their name might suggest.

Diet

Black rats are omnivorous, meaning they feed on vegetation and meat. They have a penchant for a variety of things including:

- Fungi
- Seeds
- Stems
- Fruits
- Leaves
- Vertebrates
- Invertebrates

They feed on small amounts of different foods as they move from one feed to another.

Habitat

Black rats are well adapted to live in all kinds of weather conditions. They are cosmopolitan in nature and can be found on all continents. Their habitats include grasslands, temperate, tropical, rain forest, forest, scrub forest and so on. The black rat is more adapted to living with humans. You will find that more black rats can be found in human settlements than in the wild.

Life Cycle

Black rats are naturally polygamous. Females give birth to an average of 7 to 12 offspring per litter, about 5 litters per year. The life span of a black rat is roughly one year. On rare occasions a black rat may live over two years. Their main cause of death is predation by bigger animals such as coyotes, owls, snakes, birds of prey and foxes.

Behavior

Black rats are nocturnal; they go out to feed when they are active at night. They are adapted to swimming and climbing. Like all mammals, female black rats nurse their young ones after giving birth.
