Many of Michigan's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Michigan's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Wexford county animal services for assistance. Cadillac Wildlife Removal Tip: How To Kill Gophers?

When the topic of getting rid of gophers is discussed, traps are always the best option. Trapping of gophers can be done all through the year, however, it is most fruitful during the spring and during fall. Once these gopher mounds are found, it is best to set traps immediately to catch the females before they reproduce. There are already fully assembled traps being sold. These traps are lawn friendly, will do the job effectively and they can be used and reused. To find out which tunnel is active and which is not, use a shovel to dig up the hole. If within days it is refilled, then that is an active tunnel, if not, it is an old mound and it would be a waste of time to place traps there.

Make sure that you check the trap once or twice every day. If the instructions on how to use the trap are properly followed, it should take a maximum of 48 hours (often times lesser) to get the creature.

Poisons

This is another lethal method to get rid of a gopher. This method provides home owners with an effective way to keep the rodents out. Gophers are particularly enticed by peanut pellets. So this is used as bait, once the gopher consumes it, the poison in the pellets work fast to kill the pest.

However, its consumption of the poison is the easy part, the hard part is placing the poison in the right position. Once you have found the tunnel, use a stick to remove some part of the mound preferably an inch. Come back the next day, if it has been fixed, then it is an active tunnel. Remove the dirt from on top of the tunnel and place the poisoned pellets. Then cover it back up.

Pet owners however should be very careful with poisoned pellets as it can be a danger to their pets as well. It is often advised that they seek other options.

Other methods include;

- Running a hose from the exhaust pipe of your engine down into the gopher hole and turn on the ignition. Make sure to block all other exits too. The fumes should suffocate it. (This does not work all the time)
- Drop chewing gum down gopher holes. When they eat it, it will mess with their internal organs.
- If you are handy with a gun, then use it.
- Use gopher bombs. If the directions are properly followed, it will work.
- You can also use cats. They are known to kill gophers. The thing is to known the right cat to get for the job. It is best to locate a local animal shelter and tell them why you need a cat.
