Many of Idaho's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Idaho's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Elmore county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Mountain Home animal control for wildlife issues.

Mountain Home Wildlife Removal Tip: Are raccoons friendly or aggressive? What to do if a raccoon approaches you
There are many wild animals that pose a potential risk to you. Critters such as coyotes, foxes, and wolves can be extremely aggressive predators, so coming in contact with them puts you at great risk. They should be avoided at all costs.

However, not every wild animal you encounter is to be feared. There are many that are far more afraid of you and you are of them, and the raccoon is one such example. This is an animal that many of us are quite familiar with, but you may have never seen one up close outside of a zoo or other artificial habitat. This may make you wonder if raccoons are friendly or aggressive, and what you should do if one actually approaches you?

Raccoons are not aggressive by nature, at least not the people. They will be quite aggressive to potential prey, including with animals such as turtles, fish, and other small critters that they eat for food. Generally, their only aggressive behavior with people comes under one of two circumstances.

The first of these is if you are approaching their young and the mother is apt to protect them. In this case, she may be quite aggressive with you, at least looking to scare you off so that you do not harm her young. A perfectly natural response that virtually every animal would follow.

Where you do have concern is when the animal is sick or injured. In this case, raccoons may act quite aggressive toward you because the natural instincts in their brain have been diminished or damaged in such a way that they are acting in an erratic behavior.

What makes this a risk is because they may be suffering from an illness that they easily could spread to you. For example, raccoons are the carriers of rabies. After a short period of time the rabies may affect their brain to the extent that they will forgo their natural instincts and attack you. One bite form a raccoon that has rabies could put you at serious risk, meaning that this animal should be avoided at all costs.

There is one other instance where people may come in contact with a raccoon, but it is not in an aggressive way. Some have fed raccoons frequently, and the animals have become accustomed to interaction with people.

This frequently happens at parks or other recreational areas. The raccoons have gathered around garbage cans and other areas where people have left food, so they have become accustomed with visiting these areas. Over time, some may have fed the animals food they brought along with them so the raccoons became accustomed to being fed.

This is a really terrific interaction between man and beast, but if you are unaware that this is the situation, it is best to play it safe. And less you know for sure, that still may be a sick raccoon that is coming to attack you. Not a good idea to put yourself at risk.
