Many of Canada's wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Canada's wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.

We handle every aspect of wildlife control. We are fully equipped to work on any project, large or small. Some of our services include:

  • Humane wildlife trapping and relocation services
  • Removal of raccoons or squirrels from the attic
  • Building repairs and prevention work to keep animals out
  • 100% permanent elimination of rats, mice, or even bats
  • Cleanup of animal waste and odor control services
  • Emergency animal issues, and dead animal removal

We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local British Columbia county animal services for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, spay & neuter programs, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, bite reports, deceased pets, lost pets, local animal complaints and to report neglected or abused animals. There is no free Vancouver animal control for wildlife issues.

Vancouver Wildlife Removal Tip: How to protect yourself from a spraying skunk: The obvious way to protect yourself from a Canadian spraying skunk is not to get too close but I'm aware this isn't always possible. Sometimes your paths will cross with an animal such as this one, and when it does, there are usually vile smelling consequences. You need to make sure you're out of harm's reach - the average Canada skunk can spray up to three meters, or about ten feet. That's quite the distance - about two human lengths. If a big and powerful skunk gets the right angle however, the squirt can travel for up to 9 feet. The average seems to be about six to ten feet. In the right conditions, another skunk can then smell that spray for up to a mile away. In short, getting sprayed is not fun, and the scent is not easy to get rid of. The reason the spray has suck staying power is because it's an oily liquid - you know how difficult it is to get grease off of anything. When you bear that in mind, the first ingredient you should look at in your quest to get rid of the scent is dish washing detergent - that stuff is designed to get grease, or oily substances, from plates. If you come across a skunk, don't try to deal with the situation yourself, especially if you've never done it before. The spray can be very irritating, especially if it gets into your eyes, and it can cause temporary blindness too. That puts you at risk for an actual physical attack from the animal even though this isn't likely.

Vancouver Animal News Clip: How to trap a skunk - Relationship between man and animal can be said to be very cozy. Most of us can do with one animal or the other. However, there are instances when these animals may not be very welcome especially if they are a health hazard or if they have the habit of converting your backyard into a public toilet. In addition, if they are a danger to your animals or pets, you definitely would consider getting rid of them. One such animal is a skunk.

Skunks are very territorial animals known to have helpful habits such as eliminating rodents and insects. However, when living close to your homestead, skunks can be very obnoxious animals. Having in mind that they have predatory habits, they can be very disastrous to poultry farmers. When looking for grubs, they cause considerable damage to the gardens by creating many pits as well as rolling back big amounts of sod. In addition, they can also spread diseases since many are the times when disease-transmitting insects such as ticks, fleas and mites are infesting in them.

The most appropriate method of avoiding skunk problem would be preventing them before they start. However, in case they have become established, you would have no option but to trap them. Trapping skunks can be a herculean task if you do not have a clear understanding on how to do it effectively. The following tips would be essential:

Choosing the trap- Buying the trap would not be much of a problem since most hardware stores sell them. You could also rent one out from pest control companies. The dimensions of the trap should be 10x12x32 inches or 11x12x30 inches. If the one you have has open grids, be sure to cover the top, bottom and sides using heavy cardboards. This reduces the possibility of the skunk spraying you.

Select the bait- the bait is one of the most important considerations when trapping skunks. It is used to lure the skunks into the trap. The appropriate baits may include sardines, raw parts of chicken or pet feed. While these may appeal to the skunks, they also attract other animals such as feral cats. In case there is the possibility of stray cats finding their way there, use raw whole eggs or peanut butter since the cats would never be attracted to such things.

Having an idea as to where to position the skunk trap is also imperative. Many people would be tempted to position the trap at such places such as under decks or building where these animals like hiding. While this may seem like a good idea, it would increase the risk of the animal spraying you especially when you are trying to move the trap with it inside. It would be more advisable that the trap be positioned near suspected point of entry. In most cases, skunks have numerous entry points and therefore it would be advisable that you block all except the one where you will be placing the trap.

Moving the skunk- Once the animal is trapped, carefully approach the trap. This should be done only when the skunk is calm. In case it is producing hissing sounds or if it pounds the front feet, back away since they indicate its readiness to spray. Go there only when it has quieted. Be sure to have large sheet. This should wrap the cage in order to reduce further the possibility of the animal seeing you. Be sure not to shake the cage otherwise you will be sprayed. Take the cage to far-flung areas. Place the cage on the ground. While standing behind it, open the door and move away. Wait until the skunk has left the trap then carry back your trap.
